Recently Dominique experienced a life-threatening bout of colic which required emergency surgery and a one-week stay in the Critical Care Center at the New Bolton Center for large animals in Kennett Square, PA. It was touch and go for a while, but we are happy to report Dominique is on the mend.
Dominique received excellent care at New Bolton. However, we now need to cover more than $10,000 of medical expenses. If you visit Dominique’s Mission page you will see the pure joy he brings to others, especially sick children. To help with this need a GoFundMe page has been established. Your donation now, in any amount, will go towards these expenses so Dominique can continue his mission of love when he is fully recovered.
This (left) was a very sick Dominique just before Sandy drove him to New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, PA. He had colic which is life-threatening to horses. Three sections of his small intestine were very impacted. Colic is common in horses even under the best of surveillance. Many horses die from it.
New Bolton Center is one of the finest large animal hospitals in the world. Dominique was in the Critical Care Center during his stay. When Dominique arrived, Dr. Alicia Long and staff were there to welcome him at 11:30 pm. His scan showed nothing had moved. He received a very thorough checkup, was given fluids, and was closely monitored throughout the night.
The next day he had surgery. Here on the right is Dominique waiting for surgery.
Dominique was in the hospital for one week.
He was welcomed home by his friends Daryle, the cat, and Snuck On You, the horse.
Dominique will be on stall rest for one month with three 5-10 minute daily walks and looks forward to going back to his visits later this summer.
